Hailing from the suburbs of Singapore, Gilded Edge is a four-piece consisting of Alan Francis (Guitar/Vocals), Melvin Lim (Guitar), Afiq Yusof (Bass) & Julian Stewart (Drums).
With influences ranging from 60s Pop & Classic Rock, 90s Grunge and Britpop to more modern Indie & Alternative, Gilded Edge aspires to be the ideal band to start and end your day with, beer in hand.
What do you do?
We play melodic and riff heavy rock music designed to induce drunken behaviour.
How and why did you start?
The band started as a three-piece, with Alan, Afiq & Julian all meeting through each other’s girlfriends. After a year of jamming out a bunch of songs, Melvin joined in to help add another layer to our sound. We just wanted to play our own exciting and energetic rock songs that were memorable and fun to play live.
What are you currently working on/what should we be looking forward to?
We are currently working on our debut EP which will be entitled ‘Cwtch’ that we hope to release in the 2nd half of the year! It will have 5 songs that we’ve been playing to death over the last two years.
What’s your advice for people who want to get started?
Practice. A lot. And don’t compromise on the music you want to make just to chase trends.
Lastly, shamelessly plug yourself!
On New Years’ Eve we played to a 30,000 capacity venue at the Marina Bay Floating Platform in Singapore. A few sets after us were performances by Hoobastank and Alicia Keys. It was unreal!
