My Sustainable Morning Skincare Routine

Hello friends!

Today we're having a chat about my morning routine and the products I use first thing in the morning as part of my everyday skincare routine. This little post is completely inspired by this week's new YouTube video (peep it here!) so if you're interested in getting to know me a little better you can head on over there to subscribe for more weekly video content. Okay, okay, self promo out of the way, let's jump into my skincare routine, why I've opted for the products I have, and chat about sustainability.

Step One: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Cleanser

Aaaages ago you might remember I was following along the 10 Step Korean Skincare Routine, which unfortunately was short-lived once again because let's be real, I do not have the time or the patience to do 20 steps of skincare every single day and I was beginning to look like I was constantly sweaty - not cute.

BUT what I did takeaway from this routine was the discipline to actually look after my skin properly everyday and give it time and a damn good cleanser that made my face feel refreshed and hydrated every single wash!

That's right it's the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Cleanser! As much as I wish this was a #spon post it isn't, but I've been using this cleanser on and off for about 2 years and every time I use it my skin always looks better. It also just feels really nice on your face so if you're looking for a gentle, dermatologically tested face wash this is a good one.

In terms of their sustainability, they're pretty good but could do better. Their parent company Johnson and Johnson have made the decision to make sure their products only use responsibly sourced palm oil by 2020. So we're almost there, but I guess we have to give them a year to find out if it's full implemented. Their bottles ARE recyclable, which is a big win in my books and I go through about a bottle every 2 - 2 1/2 months even though I'm using it twice a day!

Their major flaw in the sustainability/cruelty free zone is that they don't test on animals except when it is required by law in one of the countries that they sell to.

Step Two: LUSH Tea Tree Water Toner

You guessed it, it's time for LUSH products and we're starting out with the Tea Tree Water toner. It's pretty lush (haha) if I do say so myself. I don't use it in your typical toner way because it doesn't come packaged like a typical toner! The spray bottle makes my 1000% more likely to actually tone my face everyday because the mist of tea tree water in the morning is not only super refreshing but the smell of the tea tree makes me feel super calm and peaceful - the perfect way to start my day.

Step Three: LUSH Celestial Facial Moisturiser

Yes, I know I am a sucker for LUSH products but it's because they're GOOD. I was in need of a lightweight facial moisturiser that could go under makeup and not make me feel like I was melting under the weight of it all. Enter Celestial - it's lightweight and easy on sensitive skin. Perfect for me and my too dry, too oily, too everything face. The upside is that this product has been working like a charm since I introduced it into my daily regime. I never feel slimy after I use it, just moisturised and ready to start the day.

The downside of this product is that it's not the greatest smelling facial moisturiser out there. But that is just my opinion because my boyfriend seems to like it?? I guess it's just not for me, but it works fine and doesn't smell bad so it's good enough for me!

I don't really think I neeeed to talk about how LUSH is super sustainable as a brand, which therefore makes their prices really worth it since not only are they about to go fully vegan (yay plants!) but also are 100% cruelty free… BUT since you asked, they're pretty sustainable and that's a win for me. I'm sure if you've been here a while you'll know my bathroom is mostly LUSH products at this point but I'm happy to stay brand loyal to a brand who will take my recycle pots and give me a face mask! 10/10 for sustainability and for being a cruelty free brand as well. (@LUSH employees, #spon me pls)

All jokes aside, that's my sustainable morning skincare routine! I've switched it up massively since the days of the Korean Beauty Routine and whatever other trend is happening right now, and the best part about all of that is that it's WORKING. My skin is starting to look way better when it's make-up free and it's no longer feeling dry throughout the day! So I think I've found my winning combination of products and all while not creating giant mountains of garbage. It's a win-win, right?

Until next time,
